Older bees can reverse aging process, like the loveable elderly people in the movie, “Cocoon.”

Bees are like Doc in “Back to the Future” because they can turn back time. (I suppose they also are kinda like Cher, who sings “If I Could Turn Back Time.”) Arizona State University scientists have discovered that older honey bees effectively reverse brain aging when they take on nest responsibilities typically handled by younger bees. While current research on human age-related dementia focuses on potential new drug treatments, researchers say these findings suggest that social interventions may be used to slow or treat age-related dementia.

Solitary bee house, made in America

If you want to see some bees up close without spending a lot, BirdeeBird.com sells an excellent bee house that is made in America by wildlife experts. Raising bees has a lot of benefits, including providing a needed home for one of nature’s best pollinators.

Of the more than 20,000 species of bees, two of the most common are the blue orchard bee and the horn-faced bee. One-half to two-thirds the size of a honey bee, these passive bees live only six to eight weeks but lay eggs in this house. The eggs remain dormant through the fall and winter, and offspring emerge in the spring to pollinate plants. This sturdy bee house hangs near the garden and requires no maintenance.
